Maybe u could explain better
you have to hit delete……at least thats what I did. It works but i feather before I delete. Then I blur all the edges around the grain it takes some time but I dont know what step hes taking to make it lighter. Hes not turning down the opacity because when he does the gradient right after that the opacity is turned all the way up.

use the lasso tool but have it on feather 40 then do what he did ,so select around it then select inverse. Then press delete a few times and it goes exactly like his
